Tulane University Academic Year in Review 2024-2025

Dear Tulane Community,

By definition, milestones mark forward trajectory and chart the course for future events. As we look back, we find that we celebrated milestones nearly every month of last year’s academic journey. The Academic Year in Review invites us to recognize these landmark moments — and the Tulanians who made them possible — as we imagine endless opportunities ahead.

The academic year began on a high note, with a historic presidential visit announcing up to $23 million in federal funding through the bipartisan Cancer Moonshot program. The funding will support Tulane research that promises to save lives by transforming cancer surgery as we know it.

Just one month later, we announced the naming of the Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in honor of the devoted alumna whose lifetime giving set a new university record. In November, Tulane launched the inaugural Future of Energy Forum, convening thought leaders and experts from academia, industry, government and nonprofits to tackle the complex issues surrounding how we will power tomorrow. That makes a trifecta of university milestones, all before the end of the fall semester.

Every success you’ll read about here is founded on three distinctive qualities that set Tulane apart. First, we look outward to identify and address real-world problems. Second, we collaborate across disciplines to facilitate groundbreaking innovation. Finally, we foster a deeply relational culture that encourages respectful dialogue across differences, building bridges instead of barriers. The convergence of these qualities is driving our continued ascent as a research institution and fueling the exponential growth of our positive impact on the world.

These tremendous achievements show us that when we set lofty goals, we can not only attain them, but exceed them. By all measures, Tulane is on the rise, and I hope these stories inspire you to dream big in the coming year. When you do, you empower us to become more than we can imagine.

President Michael A. Fitts
